  • Description: South African National Department of Health published a regulation aimed at reducing the sodium content in selected food products, to minimise the increasing number of non-communicable lifestyle diseases such as high blood pressure. These reference materials were prepared for proficiency testing schemes to assist laboratories that routinely analyse sodium in food matrices to monitor their laboratory performance, whilst also assisting in identifying where discrepancies between results may originate from. These reference materials can be used to demonstrate competence in measuring the sodium content in the foodstuff categories and levels as prescribed in the regulation. Values for additional elements and other food labelling parameters may be available for some of the food stuff categories.
